2010 Sand in the City Volunteer Positions

 

Event Set-Up

Assist in the pre-event preparations (moving tables, stanchions, chairs etc); there is a lot to be done so you may be contributing to more than one area! *This is medium to heavy labor position.

*Thursday only: 11 am - 3 pm, 3:00 - 7pm


Cleaning Crew

With so many visitors throughout the weekend, this is a key position to the event! Helping to keep the site clean and tidy is and active and rewarding task. (sweeping the site, transporting trash and recycling – via golf cart – to the proper bins, etc).

*Friday: 10-2, 2-6; Saturday: 9:30-1:30, 1-5, 4:30-8:30; Sunday: 9:30-1:30, 1- 5

 

Activity Set-up

Help set-up the most exciting weekend of the year! Tables, chairs, tents and signs all need to find their home on-site so the fun can begin! Getting all arts and craft activities ready for the weekend’s festivities – all bins to their correct location, adequate chairs, tables and supplies.

*Thursday only: 11 am - 3:00 pm

 

Event Breakdown

As the Event comes to a close tents, tables, chairs and giant sandboxes all need to be put away and gathered for the ‘Movers’ to take back to their homes and stored until next year.

*Sunday only: 4-8

 

Info Station

With 44,000 visitors there are bound to be some questions! Hangout at the info table, pass out site maps, answer questions about the Event and inform visitors about the New Museum on East Bay.

*Saturday 9:30-1:30, 1- 5, 4:30 -8:30; Sunday 9:30-1:30, 1-5

 

Digging for Seashells

The game is in the name! Help children as they discover all different types of shells and make sure the area stays tidy for everyone to enjoy!

*Saturday 9:30-1:30, 1-5, 4:30-8:30; Sunday 9:30-1:30, 1-5

 

Bubble Hut

Help children make giant bubbles! Keep a watchful eye on the bubble solution so there is always enough fun for everyone to enjoy!

*Friday 9:30-1:30, 1-5; Saturday 9:30-1:30, 1-5, 4:30-8:30; Sunday 9:30-1:30, 1-5

 

Splash Ball

The perfect activity for a hot summer day! Make sure all participants take turns so everyone gets a chance to enjoy this favorite activity. *This volunteer must be confident stating rules and may get wet from the game’s participants!

*Saturday 9:30-1:30, 1-5, 4:30-8:30; Sunday 9:30-1:30, 1-5

 

Global Village

Assist visitors in take home arts and craft projects exploring world cultures ! This is a popular area and extra attention is needed to keep it orderly for all to enjoy.

*Saturday 9:30-1:30, 1-5, 4:30-8:30; Sunday 9:30-1:30, 1-5

 

Face Painting

Turn children into Super Heroes, wild animals or just decorate their cheek with a fun design for them to show off as they enjoy the festivities. Artistic talent required.

Greeters

Friendly, outgoing? Welcome visitors to the event and make sure everyone is having a grand ‘ole time!

*Friday only 9:30-12:30, 12:30-4

 

Sand Host

The Sand Sculpting Teams work hard and we want them to know we appreciate it! Assist teams with tools, water or whatever else they may need to create their amazing works of art!

*Friday only: 8:30-12:30, 12:30-4:30

 

Gala Set-up

So much to do, so little time! Help transform the Port Plaza from an ordinary venue into the most fabulous social event of the year! There are lanterns to place, nets to be hung, flowers and table cloths to be displayed and much more to make it look like the fun Beach party it is!

*Thursday: 3-7; Friday: 2-6

 

New Museum Activities

The Museum on East Bay will be bigger and better than ever - help the public learn all about the project and its construction through a craft TBD.

*Saturday 9:30-1:30, 1-5, 4:30-8:30; Sunday 9:30-1:30, 1-5

 

TotSpot

For the little ones that are not quite ready for arts and crafts, there is the Tot Spot! Hangout and oversee activities for families with infants and toddlers to enjoy.

Art Studio

You never know what children will come up with, but you are there to assist! Guide visitors as they bring their imagination to life through recycled art.

Make & Take

This is a busy, busy area and you better be ready for some hands-on fun! Help kids bring to life crazy creatures, awesome animals and other incredible ideas that they can take home to show their family and friends.

Kiwanis Food Booth

Help flip burgers and serve up hot dogs and drinks.

Sea Life Touch Tank

Get cozy with live sea critters!  Help our visitors get up close and personal with some of the incredible animals that live in the ocean.

Climbing Wall

Assist children of all ages safely scale a climbing structure.  Climbing experience required!
